The Best Day!
I've had one of those Sundays that goes better than planned. I couldn't have dreamed of a better one. It's funny the things that make my Sundays great these days. A few years ago a great Sunday included sleeping in late, watching the life time channel all day, leaving my pajamas on until they started to itch, getting more money from my mom than I had asked for, and going out with friends to a bar that had awesome drink specials. These days there is a scarcity of simplicity in my life. So, I find it much easier to take great plessure in the little things.
We had made plans to go to church today, a while back. First of all, I didn't really believe that Ryan would wake up to go. But, he did. Which leads me to great day maker no 1. I only had to make 3 attempts to get my husband out of bed this morning. Normally I have to make many more than 3 attempts to get him to do alot of things. I was impressed with his commitment to his promise and his willingness to follow through. He was actually glad to be doing it.
Ryan was a little hesitant to be wearing jeans to church. I told him that I would not attend a church where that would not be acceptable. Plus, an exemption from wearing slacks will make it alot easier to get him to go to church in the future. Great day maker no. 2: When we pulled up to the church, most of the men standing outside were wearing jeans. Ryan saw them and gleefully said, "Jeans!" Then, as we pulled into the parking lot we both said "jeans" everytime we saw someone wearing them. The game became much more fun when we saw about 5 people get out of one car and they were all wearing jeans. We said, "jeans, jeans, jeans, jeans, jeans" as each one stepped out.
The church we went to was beautiful. I had been praying that God would lead us to the right one. We had been planning on attending a different church today but, we changed our minds at the last minute. The one we attended today was perfect. It offered alot of great things especially for a couple like us that had been raised in two different religions. It was catholic for Ryan, and they had a choir for me. They have a men's group for Ryan, and a women's group for me. And, the congregation, excuse me, parish, is made up of a perfect distribution of all walks of life. Also, we just felt really comfortable being there and we feel like there is where we're suppose to be. Great day maker no. 3: Besides the fact that they were handing out Marti Gras beads as everyone left, Ryan said, "I really like it there."
After church we ate lunch at Niki's, which is a really good italian restaraunt over here. At lunch, we both agreed that we would not buy each other gifts for Valentines Day because we're not really going to be able financially and it just seems silly to do that when we share money. We are going to our traditional V-Day spot though. Great day maker no. 4: great lunch and great conversation with a great husband.
Okay, so, we did get in a little bit of an argument in the car on the way to our next stop. But, we definitely didn't let that ruin our day. We made up because the song Lonely Women Make Good Lovers came on. Ryan, not really paying attention to all of the words, was pointing at himself when he sang, "good lookin', smooth talkin' man". Let me just add that Ryan LOVES to be obnoxious when I'm steaming. So, I let him sing and point to himself a few times, finally the song came back around to the part that says, "Lonely women make good lovers." And, I pointed at myself. He laughed, I rolled my eyes and the argument was put to rest. Great day maker no. 5: We found a great song to make up to.
We went to cut his hair. Then, we got some ice cream and came home. Today wasn't an exceptional day. There was nothing monumental about it. It was just really nice to spend the day together and appreciate each other.
